About me

Dr. Suriti Ray is M.A M Phil PhD, in Political Science from University of Calcutta, and RBU, Kolkata. Her present designation is that of an Associate Professor and Head, UG and PG, in the Department of Political Science, Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata, West Bengal She has special interest in the area of, Gender Issues, and Political Thought.

She has completed three projects successfully.

  • U GC - Minor Research Project entitled Cultural Plurality and Persistence of Ethnic Identity: A Case Study of an Urban Trading Locality, 2006-2008.
  • UGC Women Studies Research Project entitled "Empowerment of women in West Bengal: A case study".
  • U GC- Minor Research Project entitled Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality: Constraints Encountered. A  Select Study of Districts of West Bengal.

She is actively involved in research and related supervisory activities. She has led  In-house Projects as project leader in UGC sanctioned project under the Women’s study Centre, Lady Brabourne College with two Research students –Aankita Ganguly and Sangeeta Banerjee under her. Currently she is supervising two PG students-Sharmin Ahmed and Aankita Das with their dissertation

She has  several publications in many  reputed journals and Chapters in edited books .She has several publications in ‘Social Science Journal, Lady Brabourne College Journal of Political Science’; Rabindra Bharati Journal of Political Science, and  chapters in Arunabha Ghosh (ed.), Women in India, Problems, Potentialities and Power, Mitram, Kolkata, 2010,
