At present I am taking courses on electromagnetic theory, thermodynamics and electronics at the Under Graduate level and General Condensed Matter and Advanced Condensed Matter I at the Post Graduate level.
Research Experience :
I was engaged in research work from June, 1995 to February, 1997 on Thin Films, especially nanocrystalline systems, at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science.
I did my PhD under the guidance of Prof. Soumen Kumar Roy of the Department of Physics, Jadavpur University. Our work focussed on the determination of elastic constants, dielectric anisotropy and rotational viscosity coefficients of liquid crystalline mixtures (both mesogenic-mesogenic as well as mesogenic-nonmesogenic mixtures) using electric field induced Freedericksz transition. We also studied the phase transitions of these mixtures and tried to theoretically explain some anomalous behaviour that we had observed using Landau theory. The title of my thesis was "Physical characterisation and phase transitions of some mesogenic-mesogenic and mesogenic-nonmesogenic mixtures"
for which I was awarded the PhD degree from Jadavpur University in February, 2004.
At present I am working on Monte Carlo simulations of liquid crystal systems. I am the Principal Investigator (PI) of a major project entitled � Monte Carlo simulations on biaxial nematic liquid crystals� sanctioned by the CSIR. Prof. Soumen Kumar Roy of Jadavpur University is the Co-PI of the project. After the financial grant was received from CSIR two servers DL 360P 655651-B21 and DL 360P 664011-B21 were set up in a server room at the Physics Department of Lady Brabourne College. Two research scholars have enrolled under my guidance and are working towards their Ph.D degrees. Among other things we are studying the effect of external magnetic field on the nematic-isotropic transition of liquid crystalline systems in the Gay-Berne potential, the Random Field Ising model and Lebwohl Lasher like models. We are primarily using the Wang Landau algorithm for our work and trying to develop efficient code for continuum systems.
